Oct 29, 2001/ FW/ --- One of the exciting new talents who emerged in New York during the Spring 2002
season is Douglas Hobbs who designs under the label Dugg.
Making his debut at the Metropolitan Pavillion last September 10, 2001 for New York Fashion Week,
the young designer showed a very tight collection of around 30 looks targeting the youth market
of late teens to early 30s.
Very avant-garde, his take on clamdigger pants is interesting. Using a soft light blue material,
It looked like a skirt with an assymetical hemline, that is, until the model walked past you and
the clamdigger pants made almost like a jodphur that ends at the knee became apparent that it was
not a skirt!
Then there is the slashed pedalpusher pants, again made from a soft material could make you smile.
A little daring, and showing a little more skin to be more on the conservative side than fashion
forward, Douglas Hobbs just made his collection exciting enough for the young and young at heart,
but they would not raise eyebrows. Instead, the clothes just speak for themselves.
Mini skirts, updated palazzo pants, tube tops, and bandana tops give the collection a retro 70s feel,
but it did not look dated. In fact, it was a very modern collection, thanks to the designer's
foresight of just using enough influence from that decade and putting in his modern interpretation
of the style.
