Esteban Cortazar NEW YORK, Feb 13, 2003/ --- He made it into Bloomingdale’s window last summer, International Herald Tribune’s Suzy Menkes delayed her trip to Milan to stay and witness Esteban Cortazar’s debut collection in New York last season, and friends Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Mary J. Blige, David LaChappelle, Roberto Cavalli and mentor Lenny Kravitz have fully supported the boy wonder.

Cortazar is no stranger to the New York show circuit. Back in 1999 at a New York party for Details, Cortazar bumped into Bloomingdale's Director of Fashion Kal Ruttenstein and became Ruttenstein's personal pal during the Fashion Week festivities.

Columbian Cortazar -- child of jazz signer Dominique Vaughan and artist Valentino -- has been winning popularity contests since his family moved to Miami, becoming a local celebrity by age 12.

At 13, he was collecting fabrics from vintage shops and stapling them together for a talent show at South Pointe Elementary School.

His big break occurred when at 15 Cortazar showed 30 Little Red Riding Hood-inspired pieces at a school project at the Cushman School.

Luckily for him Beth Sobol, coordinator of Moda Miami/Miami International Fashion Week, saw the spectacle and promptly entered half the collection into a group runway show.

Now Cortazar has hit the grand old age of 19, and today, fashion insiders were looking to separate the men from the boys and see if Cortazar has got the goods or if the lad is just a part of a media razzmatazz.
