NEW YORK, Jan 13, 2004/ FW/ --- Last night at Bryant Park, there was a long line for the Fusha show. Word had gotten out that legendary musician, Wyclef Jean, the husband of Fusha designer Marie Claudinette was going to perform live at the show.
And thank goodness that I have assigned seating, because when I got inside the Studio, it was full with no room to spare, even at the standing room only.
When I took my seat, I got some envious looks from some of the guests because the seat that I got had a good vantage point to watch the performance by Wyclef Jean and Foxy Brown, whose name was announced a few minutes before the show started.
The lights dimmed and the laser lights were the only illumination. Foxy Brown’s sultry voice accompanied by Wyclef’s music filled the room. And when the single spotlight was turned on to welcome the first model, the excitement in the room was so thick; you can cut it with a knife!
The 48 looks that Marie Claudinette Jean sent on the runway was the very definition of “new glamour” – sexy, sultry and luxurious.
Cute mini dresses with scooped necklines; sometimes high-waisted or pleated complimented the beaded and sequined evening gowns that screamed red carpet.
For the fashion-forward crowd, Marie Claudinette Jean chose leather for skirts, pants, even some of the gowns.
The “criss-cross” evening gown made of diamond white crepe, accented with brown leather inset will be perfect for the MTV Awards red carpet, while the hand beaded olive green silk taffeta with sequins at the side and back evening gown will be hit at the Grammy Awards.
In the very competitive world of fashion, Marie Claudinette is well entrenched in the niche and lucrative market of dressing musicians on stage or off stage.
This is not really surprised, because the designer is married to Wyclef Jean, whom she dresses of course. Wyclef Jean is considered one of the top ten best-dressed men in the music industry.
Yet in the end, talent wins out. And though Wyclef Jean is Marie Claudinette’s best walking advertisement of her design prowess, celebrities and musicians choose her clothes because she makes them look good on and off stage.
And the best thing of all, Marie Claudinette can translate the looks to fit regular people like you and I.
