Gen Art: Supporting Emerging Artists
By Boyd Davis
GEN ART is a national non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing emerging visual artists, fashion designers,
and filmmakers.
Founded in 1993 by Ian and Stefan Gerard along with Melissa Neumann, it was originally solely
dedicated promoting fine arts.
In 1995, it started branching to fashion and film.
During the New York Fashion Week Fall 2001 season at Bryant Park, GenArt made its debut at the tents.
The Fall 2001 GenArt show was sponsored by Nokia and featured designers All Saint, Jared Gold,
Paige Novick and Trosman Churba.
During its second season at 7th on Sixth, the GenArt show featured Dannenberg Castro, Keanan Duffty,
and Liz Collins who showed their Spring 2002 collection.
For Fall 2002, three new designers - Alice Bell, Gary Graham and ORFI were awarded the
GenArt grant.
