NEW YORK, Sep 9, 2005/ FW/ --- True to his press notes, Gideon Oberson designing under the label Gottex brought front and center the beauty of the Caribbean with island colors and shapes that made the audience applause in the beginning of the show.
With the dramatic colors and flowers of a tropical island, two-piece bikinis, bandeaus and tank swimsuits became exotic and mischievous, with a touch of romance when Oberson added cute ruffles on the tops and necklines.
And though this is only the first day of the shows, and Gottex being the fifth official
catwalk presentation of the day, one of the emerging trends in New York is the adoption of
European aesthetics in the collection.
Oberson gave a nod to this trend by using Pucci-esque colors in the hues of the tropics. Using color blocks on the pareos, kaftans and sheer jackets that matched the swimsuits perfectly, the designer received another round of applause from the audience.
All the 63 looks were lovely and the finale, the pure gold bikini with volan pants that is
made of pure 18 karat gold with over 5000 pieces of handcrafted mini banana leaves was very impressive.
Unfortunately, the gold body make up on the model, plus her body type took away from the desired effect.
The saying, “less is more” definitely applies here. There was TOO MUCH gold and the model’s breasts were too big for the bikini top.
This underlines the importance of choosing the correct make up and flawless casting for a show.
So, although the pure gold bikini was meant to be the “gem” of the collection, the beautiful sunset gold of the Caribbean outshone it!
Except for the faux pas on the make up for the finale, it was actually an outstanding show, and Gideon Oberson proved once again why Gottex, which was established in 1949, is the most famous Israeli swimwear company worldwide.
