NEW YORK, Sep 9, 2006/ FW/ --- Presenting 71 exits for its Spring / Summer 2007 collection, Gideon Oberson designing for Gottex gave his audience the different swimwear looks that dates back from the 1950s to the present, and what to expect for Spring 2007.
A retrospective of sorts, Oberson traced the history of Gottex by using the label’s vintage designs as templates, then retrofitting them for a more contemporary look.
Starting off the show with floral prints in a one piece, 2-piece bikinis, including leggings and a scarf skirt that flowed so effortlessly, there was an island cum South American feel to it especially with the wide sombreros worn by the models.
Using various details as in piping, scalloped edges, lattice style piping, studs, and using an oversized ring to hold together the bikini top all done in that workmanship style that only Gottex has to offer.
Cover-ups came in various forms as well. A scarf where you slip your arms through wrist bands to hold it into place, or Capri pants with scalloped edges, and a very soft and flowing draw string pants just to name a few.
From floral, solid, geometric, to some very illusion like suits that has a very futuristic feel and seems to have come from the movie “The Fifth Element” and beyond by using mesh and floating piping that covers just the right places, where all very sexy, chic and elegant.
Oberson also jazzed it up a bit by showcasing pieces with men’s tailoring, using a collared cover up with French cuffs and neckties worn around the neck which we all know will need to come off should one decide to go into the water.
Saving the best for last, Oberson showed several ‘brides’ all of them wearing swimsuits of course! Done in white with golden highlights and wearing oversized scarf cover ups, expect a lot of beach weddings with the brides wearing swimsuits from this collection.
