LONDON, Feb 19, 2003/ FW/ --- Inspiration comes from the most unexpected places. And
for Hamish Morrow, it was a flight suit and a 1950s parachute he accidentally
came across in his travels.
Staying away from the mad MOD world that has defined the runways since New York,
the designer sent slim straight trousers, industrial mesh, cashmere corduroy
and dresses constructed from layer upon layer of frayed fabric strips.
His show notes said, the collection is about 'utilizing industrial and defense structure
related to function,' a very 'unfashionable' statement to say the least, but Morrow
stuck to his guns.
The result - a very experimental collection with commercial possibilities.
Hamish Morrow is the quintessential British designer - perennially in a test tube mode,
and unconcerned about production capabilities.
This season, he is changing his gear, as he made the announcement that he is planning to
expand his business.
And it showed in his collection - less experimental pieces while showing wearable and in
turn more commercial items.
Currently, Hamish Morrow's label is only sold in 4 stores worldwide. Hopefully, when
fall 2003 rolls around, we will see it in more places.
