NEW YORK, Sep 16, 2005 / FW / – Heatherette is in love for this spring 2006 collection by Richie Rich and Travers Rains in ‘funkadelic’ signature hues of shocking pink, turquoise blue and absinth green.
Blackout on an audience that consists of the hippest New Yorkers; in the dark, a voice reads aloud: “Love is sweet, love is happiness, love is life, love is electric, love is heaven, love is good”…
Infused with the best four-letter word, the audience was then treated like in the best rave parties with a strong pulsing beat, until the glittering collage representing the two designers’ portrait got lit and opened up to reveal their first looks. At that point everyone was screaming at the top of their heads.
The spectacular show started with a kaleidoscope of looks made of printed or unprinted jerseys or shiny fabrics, consisting of dresses, skirts, multi-striped suits with fitted cropped trousers and mini balloon sleeves: quite fun, elaborate and yet easily wearable with humor.
After one third of the show, as our eyes were already tired with such an abundance of shiny pieces and printed patterns, Heatherette tried to retain our attention with what looked like a funny critic of a series of combined looks from past Galliano’s shows with giant skirts, or Kenzo by Antonio Marras’ biggest pieces, and even of the latest “pillow” dresses by Viktor & Rolf.
With the fabrics that were used, there is no doubt about to the funnily critical aspect of the designers’ intentions towards their elder and more serious colleagues.
The mixture of extremely eighties revival looks accessorized with long and big-ringed plastic necklaces in white, blue, red or yellow or with huge gold pendants and chain around the necks, seems likely to be the trend for Heatherette fans this coming spring, but could be far less convincing to less extreme customers.
The final look in the show itself consisted of a checked black and white swimsuit worn by Naomi Campbell and ornamented with two giant gimmick lurex knots on the breast and bottom.
There was yet another finale with the two designers taking their bow together with Kelly Osbourne wearing a shiny red dress.
But the final word came only with Amanda Lepore in a glittering green sequined sheath escorted by two blond bodybuilt hunks to pour at the end of the runway two bottles of Midori in a Champagne flute.
Spectacular, Spectacular, fun, unpretentious, young, Bohemian, but a little too amateur…
