Re/visions by Hong Kong 7
New York Fashion Week Fall 2003
NEW YORK, Jan 31, 2003 / FW/ --- The East will finally meet the West on February 7, 2003 at Bryant Park
when Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week hosts 7 of Hong Kong's most acclaimed and dynamic couturiers.
Organized and sponsored by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the group show which
will be held at the Studio in Bryant Park will feature Annie Ling, Blanc de Chine and Bleu de
Chine, Dorian Ho, Flora Zhang Tian Ai, Harrison Wong and Hidy Ng.
Undoubtedly a very talented group, these young designers are defined by their sharply
contemporary sensibilities and vivid East-meets-West eclecticism.
- Annie Ling's fall collection draws its inspiration from the classic TV series
'The Addams Family,' presenting whimsical yet sleek gothic pieces featuring bright colors,
empire waists, and long, flowing, sexy cuts.
- Sister labels Blanc de Chine and Bleu de Chine offer nouveau reinterpretations
of traditional Chinese styles - with the Bleu line putting forth a younger and more casual
look. This fall, Blanc de Chine favors elongated, enveloping, deconstructed shapes in grays,
truffle browns, and blacks, with dark wine highlights, while Bleu de Chine offers subtly
androgynous looks in high-tech, richly colored textiles.
- Dorian Ho, whose Dorian Ho collection is carried by Lane Crawford in Hong Kong
and in selected boutiques in Australis, the U.K., and Dubai presents a ballet-inspired
collection that embraces the grace and glamour of 'Swan Lake'. Tight bodices, marked by
flared skirts, and bias-cut silhouettes in tulle, chiffon, lace and velvet are paired
with luxurious bunches of plumage and magnificent headgear.
- Flora Zhang Tian Ai is known around the world by edgy, fashion-forward
urbanites from London to Bangkok. She takes this season as her inspiration the 12
signs of the Western Zodiac, in a collection that matches earthy browns with
heavenly blues - all studded with a constellation of semi-precious stones.
- Harrison Wong, winner of Young Desinger of the Year at the 1996 Hong Kong
Fashion Week and now the design director for the retail chain Mastina, looks back to
the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age for the second season of his line, with
flapper-inspired silhouettes in faded jewel tones.
- Hidy Ng's fall collection also embraces nostalgia, but for a different time and
space - th eclassic Hollywood of 'Sunset Boulevard', featuring opulent fabrics like cashmere
and printed lambskin in antiqued, tarnished colors.
"These designers represent the essence of Hong Kong, a place of enthralling variety, and
one that bridges past and future, East and West," says HKTDC's Regional Director for the
Americas, Robin Chiu.
"We believe that re/visions will reshape people's perceptions of Hong Kong fashion."
