New York, Sep 9, 2001/ FW/ --- The Intimate Apparel Council saw how much publicity the Victoria's Secret
shows get so for Spring 2002, they decided to present a show of their own.
Showcasing some of the top names in the underwear business, the presentation
did prove to be one hot ticket, as it opened with model Kyle strutting every
last inch of himself (or almost!) in a white thong.
As a matter-of-fact, the entire first section of the show was all white as the director divided
the production into three portions: "Simplicity", "Sculptural", and "Seduction".
"Simplicity" was just that- simple white briefs, boxers, bras, and bikinis.
They were accessorized with cameo chokers to give somewhat of a Victorian
edge. The donning of little extras like jewelry was one of the constants
throughout the show, making much of the innerwear appear to be outerwear.
The "Sculptural" portion began with the sound of "Baracuda" by Heart, which
let the audience know the direction was changing. Highlights included a
leather houndstooth bra/thong set from Playtex, a black lace bra and
pantaloon by Sextet, and Cosabellas nude and black lace slip dress.
Also prominent were this season's supposed must-have, the corset. No doubt many
of the garments will be worn Madonna-style circa '83.
"Seduction" showed a little more color as violet was a trend for H. Warshow
and Sons, Jonquil, and Chantelle who all contributed pieces in the hue. The
closing of the show, however, was most dramatic.
Male models walking together down the runway dressed up as topless
torreadors introducing the finale: model Lisa in a flesh-tone
rhinestone-encrusted flesh bikini set and tulle coat by Jakob Schlaepfer.
Victoria's Secret now faces some stiff competition.
