NEW YORK, Sep 18, 2004/ FW/ --- This might be Gilles Mendel’s first foray into Bryant Park, but he surely knows his stuff. His Spring 2005 collection is nothing less than delicate, delightful and de-lovely!
As member of 5 generation of furriers, Gilles Mendel literally grew up with fashion. The company started during the 1800, J. Mendel, Joseph Breitman’s small family-owned business, made a name for itself swathing Russian czars in extraordinary sable furs.
Almost two hundred years later, under the helm of Gilles Mendel, the legendary fur company was transformed into a full-pledged fashion house. And was a lovely transformation it is!
Gilles Mendel’s looks are classic, where the old world meets the new and shoulders are emphasized. Utterly feminine, the look is rich and elegant, with fur trims and crystals.
The surprising turn – it’s all right to incorporate fur in your wardrobe although it s the middle of summer.
Seen as decorative element on sleeves and the shoulders, that would have made PETA gasped, but brought smiles to the ladies’ faces, fur added texture and volume to the flowing dresses and gowns.
Of course, Giles Mendel could not help himself but send knee length fur coat on the runway. After all, it is the house’s main fare.
And truly, the ladies did not complain because now, they have a reason to wear fur the whole year round!
