Jessica Ogden: Threads That Tie

London, Sep 20, 2001/ FWD/ --- Perhaps it didn’t occur to Jessica Ogden that the press and buyers at
her Spring/Summer 2002 presentation might have liked to sit down. Instead, Ogden provided an empty church hall,
just off of Leicester Square, and a platform hosting a single spot-lit, green wooden chair.
Conventional catwalks are obviously anathema to Ogden who last season presented a clothes rail and a group
of friends who tried on the clothes in front of the audience. This time around a succession of Ogden's blessedly
normal-looking friends and family climbed up onto the platform and, using the chair as a prop, posed individually
and in groups for the cameras.
Then the makeshift models walked off to a stage where they patiently sat on wooden benches, forming an elegant
tableau for the finale.
The clothes in the collection entitled “Threads That Tie” were typical of Ogden's aesthetic of gentle craft.
Ogden being a master of deconstruction, her handmade garments were all about the fabrics, some vintage,
others reworked, and were shown off to their advantage by the simple cut.
Faded printed cotton tunics were layered over A.P.C. jeans and accessorized with handmade macramé slippers,
wrap dresses had asymmetrical pleating details attached to the waists, and a tunic dress was gathered at the
middle with Grecian-inspired bindings. Standout pieces included a strapless, mid-calf dress made of a patchwork
of fabrics, and a white embroidered skirt, again worn over jeans.
