LOS ANGELES, Mar 27, 2003/ FW/ --- "It's jewelry for the chosen few," says jewelry designer Mitchell Binder about his contemporary jewelry line 'King Baby.'

Inspired by the rock & roll subculture and legends like Elvis Presley and Jim Morrison, King Baby is about individuality and the courage to be different.

There is rebelliousness in it, too, with the biker and goth subcultures represented in the silver and leather designs.

Daggers, crowns, scepters, skulls and ornate crosses embedded with semi-precious stones are the main fares of this unique jewelry line which has been describe as 'art-to-wear.'

Based in Santa Monica, CA, Mitchell Binder launched King Baby only two years ago. But he is an old hand in the jewelry-design business, starting at age 15 when he became a jewelry apprentice. He has been designing jewelry for the past 30 years.

Since its launched two years ago, King Baby has gained a lot of fans which includes Cher, Laurence Fishburn, Priscilla Presley, Steven Tyler and Rose McGowan.

Last January, King Baby went international, with the opening of King Baby Japan in Nagoya.

And it is not showing any signs of slowing down.

This month, Binder inked a partnership with California-based Von Dutch, a company that specializes replicating vintage 1950s clothing styles of the "kustom kulture."

Binder will design two different & exclusive lines of jewelry for Von Dutch - VON DUTCH Originals & VON DUTCH Hot Kouture.

KING BABY for VON DUTCH Originals will feature sterling silver and cloisonné enamel jewelry designs.

This Originals line will offer belt buckles, chains, rings, bracelets, money clips, and more, for men & women with retail prices up to $200.

KING BABY for VON DUTCH Hot Kouture will follow the mantra "for the chosen few". It will carry a more luxury weight in design and include semi-precious and precious stones.

Designed for both men and women, the line will include solid silver wallet chains and ornately crafted lighters with retail prices from $250-$2500.

Both lines will be available next month at Von Dutch store at Melrose, King Baby showrooms in Los Angeles and Japan, and fine boutiques nationwide.
