Katayone Adeli: Being Hip Without Frills
By Stacey Appel
Photos by Gruber-FWD
Sep 10, 2001/ FW/ --- Katayone Adeli kept with her no frills image by showing her Spring 2002 line
at her Bond Street showroom, away from the hustle of the Bryant Park tents
further uptown. However, the fashion crowd still showed up in droves and
Adeli only further established her credibility as a downtown NY hipster.
Sitting on the front row were Christy Turlington, Tina Brown, New York Times' trim Amy Spindler
and Harvey Weinstein, who is rumored to be the future venture capitalist for Kayatone Adeli.
Adeli is very adept at mixing fabrics and textures to create hip clothing
that is her trademark. Tight and skinny low-slung trousers were
side-by-side with soft drapey blouses.
Cropped fitted leather jackets walked were followed by long chiffon dresses. Zipper-front sweat jackets
topped elegant sheer skirts. There was also a little bit of fringe which created somewhat of a Western
feeling (a trend seen more than once for spring). The simple color palette of blacks, greys, and tans only
emphasized and high-lighted the wonderful combinations of hard and soft, tight and roomy and is sure to
keep Adeli's loyal following clamoring for more.
