NEW YORK, Feb 8, 2007 / FW --- An ultramodern collection that is inventive and novel, Luca Orlandi delved into the future for Fall 2007, cleverly treating the theme in an original approach that incorporated his signature style while proposing new ones.
Known for his uber sexy creations, Luca Orlandi for the past several seasons had steadily added artistic detailing to his collection, subtle though it maybe. The clothes had remained sharply tailored as always, but there was a new softness to it, the hard edge of modernity blurred a bit.
And this new signature style blossomed fully this season, with Orlandi’s nifty handling of the futuristic theme wherein women are part of the galactic social set, instead of being galactic amazons.
Opening with an all white ski ensemble consisting of Jodhpur style trousers and quilted jacket slightly tapered at the waist and given mutton sleeves, the ‘future’ according to Luca Orlandi is bright & optimistic with the social set still spending winter at the alps to ski.
And for the après-ski, she wears a brief quilted jacket, and quilted walking shorts with white leggings that are also leg warmers / thermals. Sometimes, the lady wears a romper, hot-pants style while she keeps warm with a sleeveless fur coat that reaches just above the knee.
But skiing is just one of her many interests. While in the city, she wears skinny pants, slim dress suits and mini dresses that reach just above the knee. Pencil skirts are matched with brief jackets or a windbreaker done in glossy fabric.
And while she stays somber by day with a wardrobe based on different shades of gray, at night, she goes metallic. Silver cigarette pants and a silver top, a silver bomber jacket, and a silver empire mini with square neck. Now, that’s for casual wear.
Now, for red carpet affairs (Yes, Virginia, the Oscars still exist in the future), there is the svelte mermaid gown in glossy pale blue was adorned with crystals at the empire waist, and silvery white floor length ensemble, again with an empire waist that almost look ethereal.
Well appointed, coherent and tight, Luca Orlandi was very successful in his treatment of the futuristic theme. Every piece is wearable; every item is highly covetable.
After the models’ final parade, the audience thought that Orlandi had already pulled all his surprises, but he was not done yet. In a very heartwarming gesture, Orlandi had the members of his design team come out one-by-one!
When all four of them had been introduced properly, Luca Orlandi came out so that they could take a collective bow.
