Feb 14, 2002/ FW/ --- Luella Bartley's Fall 2002 Collection was enough to make anyone yell,
"Dyn-o-mite!"
With super-flared trousers, suede fringe trimmings, and
contrast top-stitiching, Bartley created 70's urban-hippie clothes that
will please her downtown customers.
The most notable element in the line was pants.
Whether extra-long bell-bottoms or just-below-the-knee guachos, trousers out-numbered
skirts and dresses by about 2 to 1.
Superb was the tan corduroy pantsuit with short motorcycle-style jackets and deeply cuffed fares
(corduroy was used quite a bit).
Navy was an important color, particulary when highlighted with red.
Large cargo pockets were placed on dresses and jumpsuits while puffy-sleeved shirts and
pleated minis added schoolgirl charm to the collection.
Bartley knows that hippie chicks just want to have fun, however, and she accented her ensembles
with hearts, including a red fringed poncho with crocheted heart pattern.
Yes, once again, Bartley's charming personality showed in her
collection and it's great that she knows clothes don't always need to be
so serious. Other designers should take some cues from her.
