Luella Bartley: All American

Sep 10, 2001/ FW/ --- British cult designer Luella Bartley crossed the Atlantic to show her Spring 2002
collection in New York. The clothes are full of quirks and made with a sense of humor and fun.
Usually her shows are bursting with color, but this time around, there was almost a complete absence of it.
Until the last part of the show, when Luella's trademark color-combos hit the catwalk, black was the hue
in the house.
"Sweet Home Alabama" blasted as urban cowgirls marched donning floppy hats and boots fit for a rodeo.
Miniskirts and big roomy blouses complimented each other as touches of fringe and feathers emphasized
the Southwestern flavor.
Navajo printed tops were the only touches of color in the first half of the show as most else was black.
However, like Dorothy stepping into Munchkin Land, everything went color as models clad in geometric print
bikinis made their appearence.
Also of note were Luella's pink and blue candy striped blazers and gently faded denim that was distressed
to kill. Luella is now poised to be a favorite to the younger fashion crowd right along side Daryl K.
and Chloe.
