Feb 6 ,2002 /FWD/ --- Witty Brit bag designer Lulu Guinness, whose 13-year-old kitschy-coo
line just expanded to the U.S. last September with a Bleecker St. store in NYC, is looking to
broaden her business even more with the introduction of shoes.
Launching on February 18 at Claridge's in London, the new collection of shoes and boots will
appear on runways during London Fashion Week.
And undoubtedly, the footwear will possess that girly cheekiness Lulu Guinness goods have become
fashionably famous for.
"I wasn't interested in doing shoes that were going to compete with Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo,"
Guinness told the Daily Telegraph. Instead, she's opted for styles with a Betty Boop-ish feel.
One such pair is said to resemble a fish.
"People expect that kind of thing. We have learnt that the things that sell are the things with
Lulu Guinnes touches," the designer explained.
The fall 2002 shoe collection will be available at Guinness' N.Y.C. store in August.
