PARIS, Oct 2, 2006/ FW/ --- Leopard prints and earth tones, tribal insignias and the lush colors of the Serengeti, Michel Klein was inspired by Africa this season, but the reference is so subtle.
To the risk of exploiting an overused word in fashion, it was a ‘cute’ collection that will capture a young audience.
Beginning with the all brown ensemble of conquistador shorts and suit jacket cinched at the waist with a belt, Michel Klein’s message was clear – this is for the 20 – 35 age group.
Following it with multiple variants of mini dresses – drop down waist, one-shoulder, asymmetrical hemline, deep V-necks, U-shaped necks and turtlenecks – Michel Klein mined the familiar symbols of Africa.
Trenches are short, and was proposed as double-breasted or single-breasted. There were no trousers (shorts don’t count), and eveningwear was a series of floor-length frocks that emphasized the shoulders but covered up the figure.
Heels are stacked and laced up, a very popular construction that had been seen from New York, London, Milan and now, here in Paris.
And giving a nod to the ‘black & white’ trend this season, Michel Klein did not shy away from sending all-black and all-white ensembles, plus their combination thereof.
