Paris, Jul 9, 2001/ FWD/ --- Thirty-seven looks, 37 models and tons of energy.
In short, the essence of Frederic Molenac couture is modernity.
In an era where haute couture could become a lost art, designers
like Molenac continue to bring it up to speed.
Although the forms of his fall/winter collection weren't exactly revolutionary, Frederic's
fabrics were innovative as usual.
His tendency to use thin, delicate leather again played out in jackets and dresses.
One black dress in particular was of leather lace, held together with tongue-ring-like piercings.
It looked like an attempt to re-invent the safety pin.
Bondage was another theme, as there were lots of belts, straps and buckles just about everywhere.
Colors were few, although the collection wasn't bleak.
His use of light gray introduced an alternative to winter white.
The major accessories of Molenac's collection, believe it or not, were sections of pant-legs
worn at every height.
It must be said that the jean versions were a bit on the casual side, especially for couture.
But other pant-leg
"accessories" ranging from jersey to delicate leather tulle were more sophisticated.
While Molenac steered clear of traditional French ideas of glamour and sophistication,
his clothes nonetheless were sleek and elegant.
Call it Couture Cool.
