Nautica: "Progression and evolution"

Feb 13, 2002/ FW/ --- Like last season, David Chu took his Nautica collection not to Bryant
Park, but to his Nautica store at Rockefeller Plaza.
Instead of a loud runway production, Chu chose to show the Fall 2002 line on a handful of
live male models alongside mannequins situated throughout the room.
"Progression and evolution" was the theme of the collection.
With an emphasis on utility and function, a neutral palette of olive, navy, and
grey was brightened up with pops of red and orange.
There were definitely no frills to these military-flavored looks as the Nautica
logo was kept to a minimum.
A complete lack of prints of any kind was also evident; not a plaid or stripe was to be seen.
Therefore, texture became a much more important element with chunky ribbed and cable
sweaters shown alongside tweed sport coats and waxed leather vests.
Rip-stop nylon pants and fleece tops added that well-known sporty side
to the line.
It's no wonder that Nautica is an official sponser of New
York Yacht Club; they seem almost made for each other.
