David Chu for Nautica: Glamour in Simplicity

It all started with six designs for men's outerwear in 1983. After a decade, it became a fashion
empire.
Founded by David Chu, Nautica was named after the latin word Nauticus.
Originally from Taiwan, Chu went to New York to be an architect. He took summer drawing classes at the
Fashion Institute of Technology and that little detour changed his career path. Instead of going into
architecture, he landed in fashion.
Creating new classics in David Chu's goal. He tries to achieve by continuously experimenting with fabric
treatments and paying attention to details on cut and embellishments, including zippers and pockets in
the garment.
Though Nautica has not broken new grounds in fashion for a long time, its success as a company
is based on its ability to feel the pulse of the market that it caters to. It has over 100 retail
stores worldwide and traded at the NASDAQ under NAUT.
