MILAN, Sep 26, 2006/ FW/ --- In what is perhaps the most innovative show of the day, combined with very wearable and highly covetable clothes, Clare Waight Keller’s Spring / Summer 2007 collection for Pringle of Scotland is a sure winner among the fashion critics and more importantly among the retail buyers present during the season.
Short of singing praises to every piece in the collection, Keller’s mastery of tailoring techniques, draping and balancing embellishments with the cut showed through in every exit shown.
Opening with a nude silk separate, the sleeveless drop waist blouse detailed with accordion pleats and a peplum added paired with a mini pencil skirt, Keller’s message was already clear – demure and refined can coexist beautifully with modern and contemporary.
Inspired partly by the 1920s, as seen in the puff-sleeve blouse, kick-pleat gym skirts and flapper dresses, the romance of that bygone era was translated into easy-to-wear pieces created with the finest knits and fabrics.
Still, fabric innovations and fabrications is Keller’s forte. The black blouson blouse created with a weave and featured 5 big buttons on the placket stands out. The black cocktail dress and the white separate (tank tee and A-line skirt) with embroidered squares and sparingly encrusted with crystals are the epitome of romantic modern elegance.
Trousers are slim fitting while jackets follow the trapeze cut and cropped at the waist. Shorts are slouchy and menswear-inspired; cuffed at the hem and low-waisted, the shorts are sedate and polished at the same time.
This is Clare Waight Keller doing what she does best – luxury and sophistication living in harmony with ease of dressing.
