NEW YORK, Mar 24, 2002/ --- "Venus as a Boy" was the idea behind Y& Kei's third ever collection that
highlighted youthfulness and good times.
Boyish suits and trousers were wrapped, ticked, and cinched to create purposely ill-fitting
ensembles.
Faded and frayed denim was used to make some interestingly shaped jackets.
Nylon combat trousers with mulitple zippers and pockets added function to the pretty tomboy.
Quite intriguing were the shreaded sporting gear pieces.
Authentic nylon athletic jerseys of everything from college football to the NBA were were
ripped, cut-up, and sewn back together for a reconstructed look in the form of skirts,
bustiers, and even full-length strapless gowns.
One could definitely see popstar Pink sporting one of these numbers.
Will someone call her stylist, please?
Y&Kei is husband and wife team Han-hee Yoon and Jin-young Kang, already run two
successful lines in Korea, their home country.
For the American market, they decided to do something "less about trends but more designer
and unique," the pair said.
Reminiscent of the Japanese avant-garde designers and the Antwerp troupe, Y&Kei's cuts seem
complicated at first glance but reveal an ingenious simplicity upon closer examination.
The couple also possesses a knack for accessorizing and that is one of their great strengths
and their creations unique.
