NEW YORK, Feb 7, 2004/FW/ --- Husband and wife design team Han-hee Yoon and Jin-young Kang showed the most beautiful, artistic yet commercially viable collection this Saturday. It could have been the most important show of the day also, judging from the applause of the audience when Y&Kei took their bow.
The Promenade was filled to capacity with all seats taken and the standing room was full long before the lights dimmed signaling the start of the show.
Inspired by the glamorous 1930s and reworked with a touch of the 1970s glam, Y&Kei introduced their interpretation of classic luxury to the fashion set.
With the opening garment of a silk cardigan wit knit sleeves and crushed velvet lining worn over a silk slip dress with lace trimming, the audience already felt that this was going to be a very special collection.
As the models walked, it was as if Katherine Hepburn’s heydays were the 1970s with the tweed trousers, great coats, hand-embroidered camisoles and lace-trimmed ruffle blouses.
Best in show are the fur coats cut like a trench coat, perfect to wear with everything from jeans to a beautiful evening gown.
With 43 exits, which are already 8 garments more than the standard 35 for a collection, the audience still wanted to see more, as if they don’t want the parade of this artistically crafted collection to end.
But all good things come to an end, and right now, all we can do is wait until fall when this collection hit store shelves.
Which is good in a way because we will have time to save up so that we can get our hands on at least one of the garments in this beautiful collection.
