NEW YORK, Feb 12, 2006/ FW/ --- ‘Men are from Mars while women are from Venus,’ a book title that has become part of America’s pop culture. Though there is an eternal battle going on between sexes, husband and wife team Han-hee Yoon and Jin-young Kang designing under the label Y&Kei found a middle ground in fashion as they send soft and feminine silhouettes full of counterpoints for Fall 2006.
It’s about structure and fluidity; the tone was set early with the opening piece of delicate lavender chiffon with Nehru collar and jabot, worn with hip hugging pencil slim pants accented with a diamond brooch shaped like a bow.
The fashion parade that followed continued that approach with black predominating in half of the looks, while gold and silver highlighted with the other half.
Call it the yin and yang if you feel like it. Still, no matter what your point of view is, the two halves make up the whole, making this collection as delightful as it could get.
From the box pleat lavender chiffon inlaid with gold to an all black pantsuit set worn with a glittery vest and two strands of pearls, it was all about balance as the hard edge of the more garish elements are softened resulting to a refined and polished look.
Finding equilibrium has always been Y&Kei’s strong point; balance has always been the fulcrum of their collections as Han-hee Y and Jin-young K combined disparate elements in the past such as punk and goth to come up with unique looks that works.
Known for their masterful tailoring techniques, Y&Kei’s experimentation with fabric and construction through the years had paid off. Their experience shows in this collection.
