DALLAS, Apr 19, 2007 / FW --- Known for his unique color sense, New York-based designer Zang Toi proved that he can work with black and give it the same zest and high spirits that are always seen in his collections.
Toi, who has two signature lines – Zang Toi and House of Toi, both of which are sold at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, plus a horde of specialty boutiques around the U.S., proposed little black dresses, black pantsuit sets and slinky black gowns for Fall 2007.
Interspersed with beige, red and orange, (this is Zang Toi after all, who is a colorist), the collection has a restrained exuberance that is very much within the current mood that frowns upon too much lavishness.
Dress suits with just a touch of fur, the hemline reaching mid-thigh were matched with black hose, both for style and to keep warm. Coatdresses with detachable fur collars went the same way, the silhouette slim and the shoulders rounded. Knitted pullovers reached just below the hipline were paired with bootleg trousers.
Eveningwear is sexy with couture elements very apparent. Again, there is that restraint, wherein beading and embroidery were used sparingly but placed strategically on the back, like the low back black gown or in the cape, or as sewn-in jewelry like the black bare shouldered gown with the red beaded collar that went down the whole torso.
Elegant yet easy-to-wear, sophisticated without looking snobbish and opulent without being overt, this collection is bound to fly off the shelves once it hits the stores. Zang Toi who is already enjoying a record-breaking year is going from strength to strength with his Fall 2007 creations.
