NEW YORK, Feb 10, 2003/ FW/ --- Downtown designer Alice Roi continue to amaze the fashion set
with her creative looks every season. And for Fall 2003, this is the best one yet from the
native New Yorker.
For the past two seasons, she brought us uptown, and this season, once again she gave the
fashion crowd a pleasant surprise by converging the downtown and uptown looks, once again
proving her wide range when it comes to creativity.
First, it was the 'peplum' skirts, something you would see in gym class of long ago, updated
for today's active young adults, paired with thigh-high boots.
It's something a downtown girl will covet, while her uptown counterpart will just love to have!
The designer then sent cigarette pants on the runway, some were low-waist, giving an almost
tomboyish feel, but never losing the feminine touch that Alice Roi is well-known for.
Some of them were paired with a man's shirt, giving them a casual look. Feminine blouses and tops
continued to be plentiful though.
The neatest surprise this season from Alice Roi is that she started tinkering with gowns.
There is still the downtown feel in it, yet it shows a lot of promise that pretty soon, we
will be seeing Alice Roi on the red carpet during the Oscars.
Among the emerging designers in New York, Alice Roi has always been ahead of her peers when it comes
to professional growth.
Every season, she has become more adept with her craft. And though she is not a household word
yet, the time when she becomes one is just around the corner.
All she needs is just one Hollywood movie wherein she will be the costume designer - the
same way that 'The Great Gatsby' made Ralph Lauren famous, and 'The Fifth Element' made
Jean-Paul Gaultier the darling of the 'in crowd' in the U.S.
Now, if a movie star answers she's wearing Alice Roi while walking the red carpet during
this awards season, take it as just the beginning of the young designer's future fame!
Because, it is a sure bet, you will see a lot more of her sooner than you think.
