Nov 12, 2001/ FW/ --- Alice Roi built her Spring 2002 show around three transposable,
interweaving themes: Pilgrim, Amish Chic and Hard Candy Stripe.
A technically proficient and complicated collection, the challenge for the make-up artist
was to continue and bridge the themes in the make-up.
The solution - an almost futuristic look without looking sci-fi. Nevertheless, with the
hair arranged like Princess Leia and make-up that Queen Amidalah herself would wear, the look
reminded of Tatooine, the mythical home of Anakin and Luke Skywalker.
Using dark eyeshadow, the eyes were emphasized by creating triangles at the two ends, created
a hard-edged look.
In turn, the eyes hardened the very soft Amish and Pilgrim inspired clothes and complimented
the Hard Candy Stripe portion of the collection.
The Alice Roi Spring 2002 look was a study of contrasts - soft and hard, the past and the future,
creating a style that was definitely for today.
