Backstage with Anand Jon

Backstage at Anand Jon's show, it was organized chaos! The production of a runway show includes
not only the designer, the models and the clothes. There are also the make-up artists and the
stylists.
The work of the make-up artists do not need to be explained. Stylists are similar to the wardrobe
assistants in movies or plays. They "prepare" the clothes, i.e. steam or iron them, whatever
is the need. They also dress up the models, make sure that the fit is perfect.
Anand Jon is a "hands-on" designer. He has stylists assisting him, but he also dress the models
and make the necessary adjustments himself.
There were stylists who were assigned to take care of the jewelry. They go around with the jewelry
box on their hand and then put them on the models.
The whole look had been decided prior to the show. There had been fittings, in short there had been
dress rehearsals. The runway show is the real thing!
Sometimes, a designer would change something right before showtime. At Anand Jon's, it went through
as planned. So, it was fast and everything was organized.
It was chaotic because there were so many people backstage. Celebrities also visit the backstage. At
this one, Lawrence Fisburne came to say hello and chatted with Ananda Lewis (VJ for MTV) who was
appearing in the show as a model.
Then of course, the press and photographers, you know, people like Visko and I who add to the chaos!
But hey, someone has to do it! And its a great way to make living!
