Anna Sui: Lady at the Prairie

New York, Sep 22, 2001/FW/ --- I don't know whether it is because the main resident of the White House
today is a Texan or it is just a coincidence. Anna Sui is the second designer this season who was inspired
by the west - this time, by a prairie town very much like Dallas circa 1900s.
Little tidbit about Dallas that very few know - during the late 1800s and early 1900s, there were twice as many
saloons in this city than medical doctors. Though funny, it is really not surprising because Dallas
is part of the cattle run to Chicago. Already prosperous as a financial center during that time, trading cotton
and eventually oil, Dallas was really just another town in the prairie during those days!
As I look at Anna Sui's Spring 2002 collection, it reminded me of the photos that I saw in history books!
Square necklines, sheer lace, embroidered hems and dog collars - the staple of the prairie wardrobe, updated
for today's women.
A very sexy collection, dominated by different shades of white and black with just splashes of color here
and there, stayed true to the historical account of that era. Give it to Anna to stay be meticulous to the
smallest detail!
