A Sporty Anna Sui

NEW YORK, Sep 26, 2002/ FWD/ --- If it isn’t a little kitschy, it isn’t Anna Sui.
That said, for spring 2003, Sui has taken the sporting life as her theme, and, well,
outdone herself.
She’s introduced her own private country club, the kind that allows Maria Carla onto
the courts in a black poppy embroidered mini tennis dress and high-heeled sneakers or Naomi
Campbell onto the links in a knit red, white, and blue dress, matching jacket and knee-high
motorcycle boots.
It’s sport after a long night out at some rockabilly hotspot.
Anouck, still wearing her adorable deer-print pleated mini skirt, has thrown on a football
jersey and a McEnroe sweatband around her head in the hopes of sweating out some of that
alcohol.
Sintia, in slim black sateen pants and green and white golf apron from the ‘60s, somehow
managed to win the tournament, as she sports her prize ribbon.
In between all the madness, there are some cute pieces: Karolina’s super-slim surfer jams,
the flurry of organza petal babydoll dresses, Alek’s red linen cardigan, Anouck’s
golf-embroidery jacket.
Such is always the case with Sui: She may march to her own beat and present rather kooky
images of what young, fun girls ought to look like, but she still creates clothing that
appeals to the playful side of even the more subdued of fashion victims.
