From being a part of London's New Generation Designers, Anthony Symonds has matured into a contemporary
designer with avant-garde elements in his work. He launched his label in 1998, and in three years, he
has shown polish and craftmanship in his very sophisticated urban looks.
A very directional designer, Anthony Symonds has great technical ability and it shows in his mastery of
cuts and tailoring. He understands forms and shapes in garments and translates his understanding into
slick and sharp designs, his vision of chic in the city.

Anthony Symonds's Urban Gladiators
By: Boyd Davis
Retro 80s meets the military look! Anthony Symonds once again took inspiration from the 1980s
and then fused it with the very hot military look this season.
Using palettes of black, red, blue and white, the clothes featured shoulder pads and epaulets.
Black capri leather, pencil skirts and boxy jackets were teamed with boots and finger-less
gloves made "chic-in-the-city" modern woman gladiators.
To soften the hard-edged look, ruffles and plunging necklines were added. Anthony Symonds's
sharp tailoring made these two incongruent elements look right together.
Although the look is a little to racy for my taste, the collection is very strong overall.
Spring 2001
Anthony Symonds clothes are sharp, sleek and gorgeous.
For his Spring 2001 collection, he presented a retro-80s updated for the first decade of the
millenium. Simple cuts with loose fabrics and using lots of stripes and Vichy squares, it was
deceptively simple with exemplary fit and finish.
Very strong colors - orange yellows, black, white and shades reds dominated his creations.
With his asymmetric cuts of tops and trousers, zebra prints and shoulder dresses, his emphasis is
on looking chic in the city.
