Arkadius: Commercial Viability A Must
By: Boyd Davis
Photos by: Javier Mateo

Arkadius's Fall 2001 collection showed that he can also produce commercially viable designs. His show was entitled "Prostitution" which played on the theme of what else... hookers.

Once again, his imagination ran wild, showing twins literally attached to each other by the clothes they are wearing.

The hightlight - a model walked on the runway wearing a moulded bodice with the flesh-coloured G-string inside a huge bubble of net.

Intermixed with it were very wearable and commercially viable clothes such as the baby-soft, pastel-coloured sweaters that were ruched up the back with scarlet satin ribbons.

A pin-striped pencil skirts were squeezed over ripped fishnets and crisp shirts worn with crimson ties.

There were denim-coloured sheepskin jackets, even a fur stole. The show showed Arkadius technical ability and fine tailoring when executing a design.

Finally, Arkadius has found a happy medium of commercialism and art, and still keep his imaginative talent for dramatic cutting and ornate decoration.
