Arkadius: Hints of Surprises
By Michelle Taylor
LONDON, Feb 18, 2004 / FW/ – After the turbulent showing of his last collection, Arkadius got the fall 2004/05 season right.
His consistency is questionable, but when it comes to surprises, this boy always has something up his sleeve, maybe this season it is that he has decided to finally prove himself as one of London’s possible exports in the race to show with the big fish in Milan, Paris and London.
Graphical and geometrical his mini orange, black and white checks and cleavage cut outs. Instead of shock value it is time for design demonstration.
Beginning with his knitwear that is clever and delicate as he pieces it together in an asymetrical fashion on sweaters and dresses.
Softlines for jackets with important shoulders and the use of large buttons hint at his alluding to the old worldly, high collars and fabric joining to create patterns, plus the huge over exaggerated rigid hoop shirts with tight bodices are all part of this modern maidens wardrobe.
Sexy mini skirts snap the Arkadius female back to reality, where she can be feminine without needing to hone in on the agressive but rather use her powers of feline persuasion.
Pants are tight, full-length matchstick or the shorter capri style, or are rather 5 pocket jean cut falling down the leg loosely and comfortably in shiney soft fabric.
The Polish designer based in London seems to have finally found his feet, could this be a beginning or hint at what is to come or just an odd jackpot pulled out of the hat?
Please Arkadius let it be the beginning, strange may be publicity but at the end of the day it all becomes banal and too political for a simple piece of clothing that needs to be sold.
