Retail giant Marks and Spencer sponsored several young designers during London Fashion Week.
Arkadius was one of them, and no one was disappointed with the show he presented.
Arkadius brought traditional Polish culture on the London runway with a twist!
He deconstructed and reconstructed it. Entitled "Paulina" the Spring 2001 show
showcased his technical ability and wide-ranging imagination.
Famous for his wearable art, he recreated the atmosphere of a farm using hay and multi-colored
birds and their nests as part of the clothes. His coup de grace -- a bride wearing a see-thru
gown made of sheer tulle stuffed with hay, worn by a model clad only in the smallest of
flesh-colored bikini briefs! Did Pope John Paul II see this?
With all its eccentricities, it can still be see that the the collection was inspired by the
Polish traditional culture. The main color was white and the main fabric was cotton.
Asymmetric cuts and the details in red were birds and flowers, on white cotton and see-thru fabric.
Trousers with gaps were embroidered and diplomatic strikes on cream fabrics were used. It was a
very sexy collection, with a lot of skin showing.
The Men's Collection included big belts and eccentric neckties.
The Spring 2001 Collection consisted of mainly whites, with splashes of red and flowers.
Tulle and cotton were used a lot in this asymmetric creations which showed a lot of skin.
Big leather belts were used as accessories, that is if the models were not wearing hay nor
birds!
Definitely a crowd and press favorite during London Fashion Week!
