Avirex: A Change of Pace

New York/ FW/ --- Avirex celebrated its 25th anniversary by showing off its latest collection of sportswear
during the Fall 2000 New York Fashion Week.
And if you are wondering where they have been in the past 25 years - our servicemen and women have
been wearing their clothes!
Avirex is better known at the Pentagon than the fashion runways.
The company has been contracting to the US military forces - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps,
the US Coast Guard and NASA since its existence.
The classic bomber jackets worn by military
pilots is one of the mainstays of the Avirex line.
Building on their strength of being a established brand in a niche market, Avirex took a path
less travelled in their logo strategy.
Avirex is establishment with its Washington
connection and all. On the runway, they became anti-establishment, deconstructing
and reconstructing their logo.
The clothes became streetwear, with an appeal to the Ivy League students and the hip-hop wannabe's.
It's no longer Tom Cruise at Top Gun but Tom Cruise in Risky Business.
