DALLAS, Dec 11, 2003/ FW/ --- There is one thing you can always expect from Mark Badgley and James Mischka; they always come out with a resplendent collection.
Their Spring 2004 collection shown last September in New York was no exception. It was a fresh and playful take on their elegant gowns and dresses, which they are famous for.
This season, they added bows and ribbons to their usual elegant fare of beaded ensembles.
And in one very playful moment, the design duo incorporated fringes in a black cocktail dress. With a low neckline, hinting of cleavage, the fringes were added right under the bustling. With the asymmetrical length of the fringe, it almost looked like a midrib top.
Maybe, they were thinking of Dallas when they did that. After all, they won the Dallas Apparel Mart Rising Star Award way back in 1992 when they were just starting.
Or maybe, it was their elegant take on the country and western crowd. After all, an “urban Southern Belle” inspired the collection.
Whatever it was that prompted them to do it, that dress will definitely sell in Dallas or Houston when the opera and symphony season starts.
There were a lot of gems in the collection, literally and figuratively. Pearls and Swarovski crystals adorned the bows and ribbons.
As for the clothes, it is really hard to choose which is the best looking, because almost all of them look good.
My favorite is the bare shoulder white cocktail dress with a body-hugging bodice. Beads and crystals adorned the bust line and right below the waistline, emphasizing the model’s tiny waist.
Scarlett O’Hara would have been proud!
