Badgley Mischka: Modern-Day Geishias

New York, Feb 13, 2001/ Fashion Wire Daily©/ -- To come up with the perfect coif for the Badgley
Mischka Fall 2001 Collection, hairdresser Ashley Javier looked East: "I got the idea from geishas,"
Javier said about the models' hair. To get the modern-day geisha look, Javier and his team straightened
the models' hair with an iron and added length with extensions. The long mane was then put into a folded
ponytail and held together with a barrette.
"Badgley Mischka's clothes are very sophisticated and I wanted
to create a hairstyle that looks as if a busy woman who works hard could do it herself." Javier added
that though he hasn't yet thought about fall hair trends, that "it'll be about styles that you can do
easily and quickly."
And for those who're afraid to ruin their hair with irons, Javier had good news. "Hair can handle heat,
you just need to make sure you need good conditioner and generally take good care of it. There's no
need to be scared of the iron."
To complement the design duo's rich clothes, M.A.C makeup artist Tracy Murphy opted for dark eyes.
"The runway is burgundy, so I chose layered burgundy eye-shadow over black liquid eyeliner," Murphy explained.
"It's really about the eyes, only very little blush and just a stain on the lips." As for any Fall 2001 trends,
Murphy, too was undecided. "Makeup is so individual," she said, noting that trends probably only matter to
"makeup junkies like me."
Taking charge of the nails was Deborah Lippmann, who painted the models' nails in a "Satin Doll," a beige
color with silver lining from her own line Lippmann Collection. "We try to touch the models nicely. They're
so tired by being touched all the time, so we give them massaging touches," she said.
"You really have to like this job otherwise you're burnt out by the second season you do," model Caroline
Ribeiro said, while enjoying the "nice touches" by one of Lippmann's team members. "But you usually go on
vacation before the shows, so you get energy." Ribeiro, who just came back from a trip to Brazil with her
boyfriend, confessed she's not too concerned about taking care of her looks. "I'm really bad," she said,
"I don't even do my eyebrows when I'm away. When I'm back in New York I start taking care of myself again."
Meanwhile, Erin O'Connor listed Mario Badescu as her beauty weapon. "I have very sensitive skin. The products
help my skin after being made up with harsh products so many times a day." Though Javier might have been
undecided about up-and-coming hairstyles, O'Connor showed some trend savvy. "I've just chopped it off again,"
she said about her bob. "The girls are starting to look edgier again, so I though it might be good to cut it."
Speaking of edgy, that's exactly what Erin Wasson's shorn-at-the-sides bob was. "It's not that I think that
I'm odd-looking, but I'm thankful to those who booked me and I'm trying to have a good time," she said about
the Fashion Week craze. But dressed in baggy Levi's and a brown sweater, munching red licorice, she clearly
stood out among the designer/vintage clad crowd. "I eat what I want," Wasson said about her sweet tooth.
"I don't give a f***. Oh, excuse me."
