New York, Feb 12, 2001/FWD/ -- The mood swung from cocktail chicks to bondage
babes at BCBG Max Azria this season. This was a
collection for party girls, not blushing violets.
Opening with sexy leather coats and naughtily tight suede dresses, all worn over vampish booties,
the show packed a powerful punch from the opening bars of "My Day," sung by Sid Vicious. These are
outfits designed to encourage all sorts of trysts and dalliances.
For Fall 2001, designer Max Azria wants his ladies to flaunt their shapely figures in lean
silhouettes. Azria was clearly obsessed with leather, especially in strips. He created dresses
in strips of rawhide, corsets in scalloped leather and skirts in panels of cow skin. They all
looked great.
And though sexy, the collection never looked cheap. Azria's aesthetic makes for a powerful woman
and not a pushy one. His Persian lamb and black wool coats, tuxedo jackets and beaded chiffon
silk dresses were a class act.
