Ben de Lisi: Elegant & Classic Femininity
By Michelle Taylor
LONDON, Feb 18, 2004/ FW/ – The Oscars are just around the corner, and in a star studded season packed to the brim with award ceremonies, American born designer Ben De Lisi puts elegance and classic femininity back onto the London catwalk.
Simple high necked monotone sweaters and blouses are matched together with slim fitted pants and feminine skirts that often have multiple thigh high splits for an extra kick of graceful movement while softer necklines are reserved for evenings.
De Lisi puts a new spin on patterning and uses simple but effective vertical colour blending similar to tie dye, floral motifs are applied to shirts and ribbons are used as accessories around the waist and neck.
Sheer and delicate are his choices of lace, satin and silk fabric that are often layered together or used in a series of studied panelling for a hint at Diva sexiness.
With all eyes on Hollywood, his shoestring strappy dresses are fit for any red carpet occasion, long and flowing, often with side splits and delicate necklines.
Bright full coverage denier tights in peachy pink were a bit much at times and did not have much to do with the general collection, but then again styling errors do occur and are overlooked if the rest of the collection is able to come up with the goods.
Ben De Lisi’s collection is soft and becoming, proving that he will stand out among the rest in the latest rush to
follow the new trend in designing for Hollywood.
Often sticking to what one does best is a sure winning point, and De Lisi has been designing for the feminine female for close to a decade when he began showing in London back in 1995.
