Ben de Lisi Spring 2007: A Subtle & Coherent Collection
London Fashion Week Spring 2007
By Shaun J. Wright

Ben de Lisi LONDON, Sep 18, 2006/ FW/ --- Ben de Lisi called upon the chic locales of Capri and Positano for this season’s inspiration. Peaches Geldof, reality TV star and daughter of rocker Bob Geldof, was seen ticking off her wish list on the front row.

Flattering bathing suits arrived first on the catwalk in vivid, multi-hued techno patterns. Of course, no day on the beach would be successful without a suitable tote.

De Lisi offered an interesting rendition of the oversized bag in gorgeous bronze leather that will translate wonderfully onto the city streets. Cotton lace tops and bottoms in black and white will be great cover-ups for the bathing suits while sherbet aviator glasses will offer chic protection from the sun.

The sherbet tones; apple fuchsia, lilac, and peppermint, continued onto comfortable jersey dresses with halter top necks, emphasizing comfort over flash. Standout pieces included a short, light tan trench utilizing all four colors as skewed vertical stripes and a lace blouson jacket in black.

A striped rainbow sherbet coatdress cinched at the waist with an attached black patent leather belt was also a knockout.

The eveningwear began on a bright note but turned quickly into a formal beach party consisting purely of black and white.

Unlike the earlier offerings, the American born-designer did not break any new grounds for his eveningwear, but stayed within the realms of what he does best – beautiful, flowing and sensuous gowns.

Black dresses in silk georgette and sparkle tulle were accented with Swarovski crystals at the waist and neckline. Overall, it’s a subtle and coherent collection, except a bit towards the end where a tad of editing would have aided in making the show just perfect.
