NEW YORK, Feb 8, 2005/ FW/ – Pull up a stool, take a load off and ask the nearest wench for a Guinness. At ‘The Bull and Betsey’ pub, autumn winter 2005/06 looks are for the light-hearted barmaid in us all.
Color is the spice of life, and Johnson is the chef, serving up a wardrobe of bold red and green tartan, floral and polka dot prints as well as sexy transparency.
Football scarves are all of a sudden dressy, especially if worn with full skirts whose petticoats peek cheekily beneath. Attitude and the eclectic eccentric always work for the snazzy New York based designer.
And like the gold lockets that hang around their necks keeping lovers safe, determination is hidden behind their apparent romantic feminine cheeriness. Cute cardigans are worn with cotton shirts and chiffon tiered skirts, while a winter plaid velvet jacket keeps happy girls warm.
The upper body is accentuated in corsets and strategically cut dresses. Waistlines are tight and small, emphasized via belts and jackets that sit neatly on the hips.
Delicate chantilly lace ruffles mix with butterfly sleeves that dance under falling autumn leaves on a sunny day while perhaps teamed with corduroy knickers or denim jeans, a pencil skirt or flared skirt.
Even brides attend ‘The Bull and Betsey’, wearing an embroided baby flannel bridal gown. With or without her wedding party she is never alone, dreamy and glowing as wild-west loose curls fall down her spine.
Betsey Johnson tumbles down the runway, after all cartwheels have become her signature. After all being young is all about what’s inside. ‘Cheerio’!
