Betsey Johnson: Little Dolls

New York, Sep 10, 2001/FW/Betsey Johnson proved once again that she just wants to have fun.
With a collection that was a cross between Cyndi Lauper and Carmen Miranda, she lit up New York Fashion Week
with a jolt of energy stronger than a 6-pack of Red Bull.
Entitled "Munequito" ("Little Doll"),
the Spring 2002 was all tongue-in-cheek as models strutted their stuff as Day-Glo senoritas.
There were 50+ looks in the collection and not a single pair of trousers (unless you count the lone pair
of itty-bitty red hotpants). It was all dresses and skirts this season with most of them super-duper
short (would Betsey have it any other way?).
Layers of Latin-flavored ruffles in red, blue, and green were accented by black lace details and trimmings.
Spiked heels of scary heights were paired with with cropped midriff-baring tops and gathered mini-skirts.
Also prominent were satin and lace negligee' style dresses that were sheer enough so the underwear beneath
was fully visible. Yes, that Betsey Johnson, she is so unusual...and she wouldn't have it any other way.
To end the show, Betsey Johnson did her traditional cartwheel on the runway.
