Zowie Broach and Brian Kirkby named their label after the Queen of Iceni, Boudicca (died 61 A.D.)
who led a revolt against the Roman Empire on British soil. Boudicca is a legend in British
history - a woman leading a rebellion against the powerful Roman Empire.
Whether it was a love for history or because both Broach and Kirkby wanted their designs to be
the embodiment of the 21st century woman, the clothes on the runway portray both edginess and
feminenity that today's women would definitely appreciate.

Zowie Broach and Brian Kirkby are the two designers behind this British label who present
their second, on schedule catwalk show for Spring 2001. Securing several independent outlets
in London, New York and LA, their erotic and edgy, impeccably cut, non-conformist collections
have made them a name to watch in fashion circles.
For Spring 2001, Boudica presented a collection with eclectic influences - Japanese kimoni with
an off-centered obi to the Mackintosh with a Texan touch. There are tailored outfits and also
easy-going pieces with ruffles. From a militaristic almost manly look, to the feminine almost
mystic oriental woman. Yes, definitely Boudica - who was a mother and a queen to her people, but
took up the sword to defend her kingdom.
