Boudicca: Beautiful Cuts & Fine Craftmanship
By Michelle Taylor
LONDON, Feb 18, 2004/ FW/ – On a grass runway that didn’t have much to do at all with the collection, Boudicca showed their fall 2004/05 collection in London.
Perhaps a play on taking the urban to the English countryside as seemed to be the case in the recent menswear collections? Mix hoods, loose necks or stiff essential cuts and you have it.
After signing a contract with giant American Express last year, the result of the collection could have been better, nonetheless I still remain a fan of the east end duo.
Beautiful cuts and fine craftsmanship is the key to their success with simple lines that become timeless.
Fur and leather is used in exaggerated overlaying of shiny transparency with drawstring waists and cuffs. Long skirts are pleated and pants are either tailored or casual and straight legged.
Patterns are rare, but there is the use of delicate floral on transparent fabric and non, finished with leather ribbing at seams. Hoods are a must in the Boudicca collection hinting at casual and active wear for a true London street look.
Though don’t get me wrong, there is no rock and roll or English punk in this collection, it is more of a slight 1940’s influence with lowered waistlines and feminine flow mixed with in a rap song.
The coats remain stunning and a must for any fashion conscious female, uncomplicated and sincere.
Draping mixes for the Boudicca duo as the London fashion organisation battles to keep design names and emerging creative talent in a battle for international media attention that each season seems to worsen.
