LONDON, Sep 21, 2003/ FW/ --- Broach and Brian Kirby had a lot to live up to this season,
after their February autumn/winter 2003/2004 all black show produced a standing ovation
and the recollection of what London fashion week once used to offer.
The east end duo, with their important front row turnout and American giant, American
Express as sponsors (previous sponsors also of the likes of Alexander McQueen) had nothing
to worry about.
Blaak presented a spring/summer 2004 show that was full of attention to
detail and not only concept, one that is already being hailed by international media as the
‘rags to riches’ success story of the season so far.
A rewarding collection that played on black and white and used metallic colours such as blackened gold along with minimalist decisive cuts were keys for success.
The show crossed various timelines with tailored pants and jackets,1980’s influence through diagonally zipped leather jackets and 1700’s romanticism via sweetlines and flared sleeves.
Sexy transparency and feminine tucks such as slightly puffed short sleeves on jackets and tails on skirts, showed that the Boudicca woman is free to express herself at all hours of the day as the definition of ‘pretty’ moves away from conventional concepts.
A chic, stylish, graphic rewarding show demonstrating that hard work eventually pays off and that overnight success is simply a glamorous idea.
