MILAN, Mar 23, 2005/ FW/ --- Calvin Klein’s Milan presentation was surprisingly inspirational and definitely more elaborate in his fashion and styles. Francisco Costa gave us a three-in-one exhibition showing his jewellery, women’s wear and denim line
Starting with the beautiful women’s line, Costa has decided to spice the collection up with adding some nice colour to the usual Calvin Klein colourless palate. The new colours of the season are emerald, warm colt and celestial blue and nickel. Although very simple colours, they definitely added to the collection as a whole.
The proportions of the collection were slimmer and softer. More rounded shoulders of the 50s were seen and more attention were given to the waist with cropped extra short backs. This look is taken directly from riding coats. The trousers are made narrower giving a higher waist and an elongated leg.
The use of skins was perfection using alligator, crocodile, python and ostrich on everything from shoes to coats. The bottom of the sexy platform stiletto had silver soles and ballet flats and boots had an inset heel.
The gown collection was superb with his mixing and matching of fabrics and minimal styling. Most of the gowns were very Oscar worthy. A stand out was a floor length frock that was actually on hold for a red carpet experience for the Academy Awards. The dresses were sculpted in chiffon, silk and organza. Simple beauty is what it’s called….
CK’s denim line is always fun. This season motorbike racing inspired it. All of the jeans were very detailed with sandblasting and heavily prewashed.
For the females there were many glittering finishes at the front and back of jeans. Very short minis reminiscent of Alicia Silverstone were pre-sexy. Motorcycle leather coats were styled for him or her with patches or simply in brown soft leather.
The jewellery collection is in collaboration with Swatch and there were many intricate designs. Smooth slender circles were polished in stainless steel curved arches on watches.
With a reflective face slips onto a slim leather strap, this watch was functional and full of sleek fashion. Earrings and rings were also in stainless steel with circler double bands. A curved halo bracelet was a dynamic accessory.
Although the jewellery was not fitting for an Oscar night, the younger CK customer can enjoy intricately styled jewellery with their ready-to-wear clothing.
