MILAN, Jan 17, 2004/ FW/ --- Calvin Klein might be retired, but his replacement,
Italo Zucchelli (photo at left) knows the label very well, presenting a collection last Thursday that will make any Calvin Klein fan happy.
One of the biggest challenges when a young designer takes over a label is the need to understand and keep the existing clientele satisfied and then infuse his or her own style.
The talented, Mr. Zucchelli did just that!
Sending black, charcoal, anthracite, washed deep blue and olive garments on the runway, the colors that are usually identified with the brand assured the audience that they are seeing Calvin Klein.
Then Mr. Zucchelli threw in a punch, subtle as it is, the young designer added details here and there like the quilted leather at the side seams of the leather pants, the tiny pleats on a shirt, and almost unnoticeable fringe in the linings of the jackets.
Even Calvin Klein himself, who was sitting at the sidelines applauded with the audience, when Italo Zuchelli took his bow.
Everyone appreciated all the young Adonis looking sartorial, yet ready for action in any urban setting, whether it was downtown or uptown.
Italo Zuchelli understood his predecessor’s legacy to fashion – urban America that has turned global.
