Calvin Klein: Cool & Clean

Milan, June 28, 2001/ FWD/ --- With so many Milan runways a kaleidoscope of crazy colors and overwrought
PhotoShop images, Calvin Klein played it cool his own way this season with a clean, mono-color collection.
Midway through there were a couple of prints, in particular a pretty version with tiny scattered squares,
but most of the attention was focused on the garment's surface, which was puckered, piqued and slightly
glazed.
The designer still has a big weakness for denim, using it Thursday crumpled and faded in bulky paneled
pants and worker shirts. But Calvin's workers looked like the sort who toil in an air-conditioned plant,
take two-hour lunch breaks and have a wine list in their canteen.
Klein's silhouette was trim though non-restrictive, his pants flat-front and unadorned. His models were
youthful and breezy. Though practically every other important collection in Milan has featured Christ-like
bearded figures, Klein's models were uniformly clean-cut.
Dressed in black pants and top, Calvin took his applause looking impressively bouncy for a baby boomer.
Asked about the lack of facial hair on his models, Klein replied: "Beards! Beards? In one of my collections? I
don't think so."
